In November 2008, washed upon the shores of Woodland Beach at the end of Bombay Hook Avenue was found, a monster so hideous, so frightening, locals and vistors both ran away in horror!!! The "Woodland Beach Monster"! Long Island recently had the "Montauk Monster", but with all due respect, our "Monster" could beat up their monster! Measuring 6'3" long, this male Atlantic Sturgeon was found on the rip-rap on the shore. DNREC has measured and photographed this fish. The Dept. of Fisheries tag this breed to track their movement and migration. They were found to be moving south on Oct. 22nd. If you find or catch an Atlantic Sturgeon, please contact DNREC, especially if a tag is found on the fish.
